Cards & Mastering

At Starlight, our card decks are split into four categories: Artists, Videos, Photoshoots, and Special. Artist and Video decks will always have 25 cards in each; Photoshoot decks can have either 10, 15, 20, or 25 cards; and Special decks can have either 20 or 25 cards! All cards belonging to these deck types are worth 1 and can be mastered for rewards if you collect all the cards in the same deck.

We also have two kinds of cards that are not collected in decks but individually: Member Cards and Event Cards. These are all worth 0 but can be mastered for rewards if you collect a certain amount of each! MCs are also still allowed to be traded - but only for other MCs of the same type (ie. mc-Cassidy01 for mc-yasu01 is OK but mc-Cassidy01 for mc-yasu is not).

This is because we now allow players to apply for an additional MC every full year they've been a member of Starlight! They will retain the same member status symbol like their original MC but the player can choose a new image and colour for each new MC (or keep the same, if they like). You can apply for those on the forums.

MASTERIES

Once you have collected all of the cards in a deck, you have mastered it and can turn it in for rewards! However, once you a master a deck, you can no longer trade away the cards used in the mastery unless you obtain duplicates.

While it doesn't matter what type of deck you master, the reward will change depending on how many cards are in the deck! As such, there are different mastery forms depending on the deck's card count; make sure to use the correct one when submitting.

Deck CountReward
10 Cards4 random cards
15 Cards1 choice card, 4 random cards
20 Cards2 choice cards, 4 random cards
25 Cards2 choice cards, 5 random cards

SPECIAL MASTERIES

Players must collect a set of 10 Member Cards -OR- Event Cards to be able to receive rewards for "mastering" the set, however you cannot combine MCs and ECs in a single set together. Each complete set must only contain 10 cards of one or the other, not both!

Additionally, all the Member Cards/Event Cards in a set must all be UNIQUE. You cannot use a MC/EC in one set if it's already been used in a previously completed set! Keep track of which ones you have and haven't used, as the form to submit them will ask for a list each time. The site gallery on your profile is known to overwrite previous special masteries that will be displayed as well, so you may need to re-add them yourself, along with the most recently submitted special mastery, if this happens to you!

Member Cards10 random cards, 1 star
Event Cards10 random cards, 1 star

MASTER BADGES

Each deck mastery also comes with a badge that can be displayed on your trade post to show you fully collected the deck, which you can see examples of below! Special Masteries DO NOT give any badge when you master a set of them; you will only get just the rewards for them.

You may also notice that we have Custom Master Badges available in this TCG which are what the name suggests: custom-made master badges! They are unique master badges made to the player's preference and if they want to replace the default master badge with their own, as the original image will be replaced with one of the player's choice instead (the template and deck colour remains the same).

Players may also keep the original image if they'd like and just receive a version of the badge with their name on it - but you must still purchase or redeem it through other methods!

The only other requirement for obtaining a custom master badge (aside from needing a custommasterbadge coupon) is you must master the deck you want to purchase a badge for, before actually requesting the badge. Doesn't matter if it's a re-mastery or your first (and only) time mastering it, just master it! For more information on prices and currency needed, see the Currency & Shop page, then request badges here.

WARNING! The information below is not necessary to know in order to participate in the TCG!
However, we thought it might be beneficial to explain how we name decks so we can try maintaining as much consistency as possible when it comes to donating/making/releasing new decks. It also explains how we decide which artists get their own set page, where certain decks will be sorted into those sets, and what can/can't be used for certain Fan Clubs!

FILENAMES & DECK SORTING

As of Starlight 2.0, we have implemented a new system for how we name and sort decks. We know it was confusing before on what is considered part of which set especially for the Fan Club activity, which is why we put together the summaries below to hopefully help explain everything better! Only summaries for artist, video, and photoshoot decks are displayed because special decks are now solely for Special Stage and TCG event decks which don't get donated as a whole like regular decks.

In general though, all decks will have their filename formatted as artistname-deckname. For Starlight 2.0, we've also shortened some decks' filenames because they were too long, as well as changed any decks that had multiple parts to it from the roman numeral (I, II, III, etc) to the common numeral (1, 2, 3, etc)! You can see the full list of filename changes here.

TIP! Whenever a requirement (for which artists get their own set on our CARDS page) or explanation mentions "music-related content" then it means anything related to a music release from the soloist/unit in question, whether that be video or photoshoot decks. Things like magazine or endorsement photoshoots that coincidentally only feature the specific member(s) that is a soloist/are a unit would not count as a soloist/sub-unit "music-related" deck as they are general photoshoots, and not related to their music release(s)!

ARTIST DECKS

For group members, their filename will always have the group's name (e.g. girlsgeneration-taeyeon). If that member has debuted in a sub-unit and/or as a soloist then the filename does not change! The only time a filename will change if the member leaves their former group and debuts in a new one or as a soloist.
For example, IVE's Wonyoung was a member of now-disbanded IZ*ONE and has since debuted in IVE so her artist deck used to be izone-wonyoung but is now ive-wonyoung.

Similarly, the artist deck for IZ*ONE's Eunbi used to be izone-eunbi but after the group disbanded, she later debuted as a soloist resulting in the filename being changed to the name she's now promoting under, kwoneunbi - but if she had not debuted as a soloist or joined a new group, her deck's filename would remain izone-eunbi.
In terms of what artist set a group member's artist deck is sorted under, it will always be their main group's set unless, again, they leave their group and debut as a soloist (or other group) in which case it will be placed under their own/new set instead.

However, if an artist is still part of their group but also has an active unit/solo career in addition, then although their filename and deck is listed under their main group, their artist deck CAN be used for their individual unit/career's fan club! Former members who have left a group completely cannot be used for their previous group/unit's fan club.

In the case of temporary or project groups: They will all receive their own artist set and any decks related to the group will be placed under it, including the artist decks of members who did not re-debut in a new group or as a soloist. If a temporary group does not have any members who didn't re-debut elsewhere however, then the artist set will only exist if other decks from the group were released, such as MVs, photoshoots, etc.

As for the artist decks of members who have since debuted in a new group or as a soloist, they will be placed under their new career's respective set instead — but any members from the temporary group can have their artist deck be used for that group's fan club as well, even if they have a different artist set now, or aren't even active as an idol anymore!

VIDEO DECKS

For any release, their filename will always have the artist's name whether it be a group (e.g. girlsgeneration-gee), a group's sub-unit (e.g. tts-twinkle), or a group's solo (e.g. taeyeon-i) music video.

If a group's member/unit releases a song that has a MV/digital release but was never actively promoted or they have not had an official solo/unit debut, the filename would follow the same format as a normal MV deck (e.g. choerry-lovecherrymotion instead of its old filename, loona-choerrylovecherrymotion) as well.

As for what set a video deck will be sorted under, it will depend on a few requirements!

To have their own solo artist set, the group member needs to have:
  • at least 2 solo releases that were actively promoted, or
  • have enough music-related content as a soloist for at least 6 decks (the minimum req. for their own fanclub), or
  • left their group (or their group has disbanded) and has since released solo work that was actively promoted at least once.
Artists who have a solo career while still being a member of their original group AND meet the requirements for their own set, will have all their music release-related decks under their own set.

To have their own sub-unit artist set, the sub-unit needs to have:
  • at least 2 unit releases that were actively promoted, or
  • have enough music-related decks as a unit for at least 6 decks (the minimum req. for their own fanclub).
All music-related decks for a sub-unit that also meets the requirements to have their own set, will be placed under that as well.

If a solo career/sub-unit does NOT qualify for their own set though, then all subsequent decks will be placed under their main group's artist set. They WILL retain their own filename, however! This means you can use sub-unit/soloist decks for joining & levelling up in the main group's fan club, as long as the deck is still under that set. If it's later moved to its own set because they meet one of the requirements above in the future, then they can no longer be used for their main group's fan club!

PHOTOSHOOT DECKS

For all photoshoots, their filename will always have the artist's name just like video decks do! However, there are certain cases that change which artist name is used and also decides whether additional information is included in the deck's filename, such as a photoshoot only featuring certain members.

If the photoshoot is something general like a magazine, an endorsement, a season's greetings set, etc then the filename will use the main group as its artist name, even if the photoshoot only features select members. If a specific combination of members or a single member are the only ones featured in a photoshoot—and they also have their own career (sub-unit or solo)—the artist name used in the filename will still be their main group's in most cases, unless the photoshoot is specifically marketed as a unit/solo release. To further explain:

For photoshoots of select members, we will include their first name's initial (for 2+ members) or their first name (for 1 member) at the beginning of the 'deckname' part in the filename.
For example, the deck for Red Velvet's Seulgi and Wendy's shoot in Marie Claire Magazine's September 2019 issue would have redvelvet-swmarieclaire1909 as its filename. The sw right before the actual photoshoot/deck name is to represent this being a deck featuring only Seulgi and Wendy, hence the use of their initials "SW". The order of the initials is decided based on age, going from oldest to youngest, with the leader (if featured) being listed first — just in the case the leader is not the oldest in their group!

Another example is Taeyeon who has an active solo career but has also done various photoshoots on her own. The filename for the deck of her shoot in Nylon Magazine's March 2019 issue would be girlsgeneration-taeyeonnylon1903, and not taeyeon-nylon1903 — this is because this photoshoot is not related to any specific music release (it is just a photoshoot she did, even if it may have been shot during the time she was promoting a certain release)! As such, the filename has taeyeon right before the actual photoshoot/deck name which is just "Nylon, Mar. 2019" — that we also shortened to nylon1903 with the numbers 1903 being the month & year of the issue in "YYMM" format.
If the photoshoot is something specific to a sub-unit/soloist release like teaser photos, album scans, a promotional shoot with a news publisher for a specific release, etc then the filename will use the sub-unit/soloist as its artist name instead!
Disclaimer! The original example we had for this section was ASTRO's sub-unit MOONBIN & SANHA who at the time of writing this, had only actively promoted once (their debut); since then, they made one comeback so while they would now qualify for their own artist set, we will continue with this example as if they didn't!

That being said, the filename for a deck featuring the teaser photos of their album, IN-OUT, would be moonbinandsanha-inoutfadeinteasers — the artist in the filename is their unit's name, not their main group's name, because these are teasers for their sub-unit release and not the whole group (ASTRO). The deckname also includes the album's name (IN-OUT), the name of the version specifically featured in the deck (Fade In), and then ends with teasers - this is to differentiate it from a separate deck of only album scans, which could be potentially donated later on!

If MOONBIN & SANHA did not have a comeback and their debut was the only time they actively promoted, their related decks would remain under the ASTRO artist set, and thus could be used to join & level up in an ASTRO fan club. At the same time, a M&S fan club would not be created either, unless—as mentioned above—they had enough music-related content of just their unit to make 6 decks, despite having only promoted once!

In that case: if they eventually had enough though, they would not only get their own artist set where all release-related decks for their unit would be moved/placed under that set instead, but that also means their unit decks could no longer be used for an ASTRO fan club and can now only be used for a M&S fan club!
To summarize: what artist set a photoshoot deck is sorted under will, again, depend on what the photoshoot is of but also, whether the artist already has its own artist set or not!

For general photoshoots (as in nothing tied to a specific music release) then those will always go under their main group's artist set, even if they have their own artist set too. However, if that photoshoot is of a specific member who is a soloist -OR- is of members who are part of the same unit + the soloist/unit also qualifies for their own fan club, you can use those decks for both fan clubs as well, even though they're sorted under the main group's set!

For release-specific photoshoots such as album shoots and the likes then those will always go under the sub-unit/soloist's own artist set UNLESS they do not qualify for their own set (as outlined in the requirements under "Video Decks") - in which case they will remain under their main group's artist set. This also means they likely do not have enough decks for their own fan club either so you can use their sub-unit/soloist decks in the main group's fan club instead.
